Wave Powered Desalination Plant Goes Online In India


This article, India's first desalination unit becomes operational near Vizhinjam (1/13/04) reports on the start of operation of India's first tidal power run deslination plant. According to the article, the plant has a capacity to produce 8000 liters of "quality drinking water" a day. Due to seasonal variations in the wave energy, the tidal project could not regularly contribute power to the grid. It was in this stage, the scientists chalked out a novel idea of running a desalination plant with the help of tidal energy.
